Cities, towns or villages may choose to not administer and enforce the Uniform Code. When that happens, the county enforces the code in that city, town or village. However, counties may also choose not to administer and enforce the Uniform Code. In that case, the Department of State DCEA then becomes responsible for code enforcement. The Department’s responsibilities are established in 19 NYCRR Part 1202.
The DCEA is currently responsible for administering and enforcing the Uniform Code and the Energy Code in fourteen county governments, and regional staff acts as the local code enforcement official in the Town of Conewango and the Village of Canaseraga.
