Project Coordinator Selected to Establish New York State Underwater Blueway Trail
12/31/2010
Mayor Robert Blais announced that the Village of Lake George has sub-contracted with S & R Underwater to serve as Project Coordinator for the planning and development of the New York State Underwater Blueway Trail. Preparation of the plan is being financed through a $220,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Fund Local Waterfront Revitalization Program and is being undertaken by the Village in partnership with the cities of Dunkirk, Geneva, Oswego and Plattsburgh and the Village of Freeport. This project will document, promote and preserve shipwrecks and other underwater cultural resources in New York waters and establish underwater SCUBA trails and above-water signage, providing a catalyst to economic development through dive tourism. Within the Lake George region, grants have also been awarded to communities to protect lake water quality, revitalize downtowns, improve public access to the lake and strengthen tourism economies.
