What We Do

Education and Coordination – We focus on educating consumers on identity theft prevention and mitigation; avoiding the latest scams; choosing and using credit wisely; and, product safety. We coordinate with other government agencies as well as educational institutions and not-for-profit organizations to advance important consumer messages and inform and empower consumers and the business community.

Assistance – Consumers can file complaints 24 hours a day via the Consumer Complaint form. To speak to a trained consumer advisor, call 1-800-697-1220, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Protection – On behalf of consumers, the Division actively participates in proceedings concerning the availability, pricing and quality of electricity and natural gas service in the state. The Division also submits formal filings commenting on proposals and rate proceedings by utilities. The Division's efforts and activities have helped save consumers hundreds of millions of dollars on their gas and electric bills in recent years.
