Search the Corporation & Business Entity Database

The Corporation and Business Entity Database includes business and not-for-profit corporations, limited partnerships, limited liability companies and limited liability partnerships, as well as other miscellaneous businesses.

The Corporation and Business Entity Database online search is intended for status inquiries of entities already on file with the Department of State. Customers are cautioned to avoid interpreting database search information as an indication that a name is or is not available for use.

Search Instructions:

  1. Enter the Corporation or Business Entity Name being searched
  2. Select a Status Type
  3. Select a Search Type
  4. Click the Search Button

Please note that the database does not include corporate or other business entity assumed names filed pursuant to General Business Law, §130. Assumed name filings are filed and maintained by the Division of Corporations for corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships. Although maintained by the Division of Corporations, searches of records of assumed names used by corporations, limited liability companies and limited partnerships must be made by a written, faxed or e-mail request to the Division. All other entities such as general partnerships, sole proprietorships and limited liability partnerships file an assumed name certificate directly with the county clerk in each county in which the entity conducts or transacts business.

ADDITIONAL SEARCH INSTRUCTIONS

Entity Name Box:
Enter the business entity name being searched for. The entity name may be entered in upper, lower or mixed case. Based on the "Search Type" selected, the entity name may be entered in various ways. In general, entering a larger portion of the name will result in fewer entity names being listed.

Status Type Box:
Select one of two types of names. Selecting "Active Only" will search only active entity names. Selecting "All" will search both active and inactive entity names.

Search Type Box:
Select one of three types of searches; "Begins With," "Contains," or "Partial."

1. "Begins With"
This type of search requires the exact beginning part or entire entity name to be entered. Non alpha-numeric characters are also required to be entered exactly as they appear in the entity name.
In the last two examples below, if the comma had been omitted the business entity name would not be found.
Examples of how the name "AT&T CELLULAR SERVICES, INC." can be searched:

  • AT&T
  • AT&T CELL
  • at&t cellular serv
  • AT&T CELLULAR SERVICES, INC
  • AT&T CELLULAR SERVICES, INC.

2. "Contains"
This type of search requires you to know at least one of the words that is contained in the entity name. When entering multiple words, the order of the words does not matter. Non alpha-numeric characters are not required to be entered.
Examples of how the name AT&T CELLULAR SERVICES, INC. can be searched:

  • AT&T
  • AT&T CELLULAR
  • Services Cellular
  • ATT CELLULAR SERVICES INC
  • AT&T CELLULAR SERVICES, INC.

3. "Partial"
This type of search is similar to the "Contains" search, but may take longer and yield more results. The difference is that the last word may be a partial word. Non alpha-numeric characters are not required to be entered.
Examples of how the name AT&T CELLULAR SERVICES, INC. can be searched:

  • CELLUL
  • AT&T CELL
  • Services cel
  • ATT CELLULAR SERV

Search Button:
Submits the search request. This button can be selected using any of the following methods:
