Region 3 - Mid-Hudson
The City of Kingston will complete an Implementation Strategy for an approximate 70-acre area characterized with over 25 potential brownfield sites that are located in the Rondout waterfront area. The primary community revitalization objectives include: brownfield remediation; redevelopment of sites with waterfront oriented uses that will create jobs and tax ratables; maintaining the connection between the nearby neighborhoods; and increasing public access.
The City of Mount Vernon will complete a Nomination for an approximately 231-acre area characterized with 20
potential brownfield sites that are located in the City's south-eastern section in the Canal Village area. The primary community revitalization objectives include: identifying key redevelopment opportunities; revitalizing the entire Canal Village area by cleaning-up and redeveloping sites for appropriate commercial businesses and enterprises; upgrading the area's existing infrastructure; and increasing the City's tax base and employment.
The City of Newburgh will complete a Nomination for an approximate 370-acre area characterized with 140 potential brownfield sites that are located in the City's southeast portion on the Hudson River. The City aims to foster redevelopment and revitalization in one of the racially diverse and lowest income areas of the city.
The Newburgh Community Action Committee will complete a Nomination for a 137 acre area characterized by at least two large brownfield sites that are located within the northern section of the City of Newburgh. The primary objective is to return long dormant brownfield sites to productive economic and social use.
Ulster County will complete a county-wide Pre-Nomination Study to begin to address an estimated 1,500 potential brownfield sites. This project will: identify areas affected by concentrations of brownfields; assess their redevelopment potential; and establish priorities for redevelopment and further action. The Pre-Nomination Study will be coordinated with and build on existing economic development and priority growth area plans.
