GO GREEN AND PREVENT IDENTITY THEFT
Department of State Participates in Shred the Word in Rochester on September 24
ROCHESTER - The Department of State’s Division of Consumer Protection will join with other organizations on Saturday, September 24, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Eastview Mall, 7979 Pittsford Victor Rd., Victor, NY to help consumers prevent identity theft by shredding their paper documents containing personal information.
The Department of State is teaming up with the Victor Sustainability Advisory Committee and Shred-it - Utica - Buffalo for the one-day event. Residents are encouraged to stop by to have their personal records shredded free of charge by trained and licensed professionals.
Shredding is a proven deterrent of identity theft, which can result when someone “dumpster dives” or sifts through the contents of your trash and then uses your personal information as their own. You can protect your identity by thoroughly destroying documents containing personal or sensitive data.
