Department of State to Hold Public Meeting on Licensing of Home Inspectors
Board will discuss modifying Module 5 of qualifying education curriculum
ALBANY - The New York Department of State will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, October 12, on the licensing of home inspectors. The meeting will take place at the Alfred E. Smith State Office Building in Albany and at 123 William Street in NYC. The Department’s Division of Licensing Services issues licenses to people who conduct home inspections, and the Home Inspection Council advises the Department on adoption of rules and regulations relating to this discipline.
The Department’s Home Inspection Council is convening to discuss the possibility of modifying Module 5 of the qualifying education curriculum, which requires field based training. Some of the issues under consideration include: limiting the number of students who accompany field trainers to inspections, requiring students to complete Modules 1 through 4 before taking Module 5 and requiring students to complete a required number of home inspections for clients.
