NYS Energy Code Update
On December 6, 2019, the State Fire Prevention and Building Code Council adopted a rule updating the State Energy Conservation Construction Code (Energy Code). The Notice of Adoption of the December 6, 2019 rule was published in the February 12, 2020 edition of the State Register. The rule updating the Energy Code incorporates the following documents by reference:
- 2020 Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State (publication date: November 2019)
- 2016 edition of the Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings ("ASHRAE 90.1-2016")
Effective Date
The rule updating the Energy Code becomes effective on May 12, 2020. There is no "transition period" for the Energy Code.
