Office Closures and Examination Cancellations

Department of State Office Closures:

Out of an abundance of caution and in line with recent guidance issued by the Center for Disease Control and New York State, the following Customer Service Centers will be closed through March 30 due to COVID-19. Some of the services provided by these offices include accepting summonses on behalf of the Department of State and assisting customers with license applications and renewals:

  • Albany
  • Hauppauge
  • Manhattan
  • Utica
  • Binghamton
  • Buffalo

Customers seeking Apostille and Certificate of Authentication services are to mail their requests to the following address:

In response to the COVID-19 virus public emergency, the Office of Administrative Hearings is closed. All hearings scheduled through April 10th are postponed in New York City, Albany and Buffalo. If you have a hearing during this time period, you will receive a notice with further instructions and a new hearing date. Please email the Office of Administrative Hearings at oahrequests@dos.ny.gov or call 518-486-6423 with any questions related to your hearing.

Practical Examination Cancellations:

All practical examinations scheduled through April 17 have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Candidates scheduled for these exams will receive notification of the cancellation by email. The email will provide instruction on how to proceed with the exam rescheduling process. Some candidates will be rescheduled for their next exam by our office. These candidates should monitor their online account for their rescheduled exam date and time. If the rescheduled date and time is not acceptable, candidates may reschedule their exam through their online account up to six days before the new date.

Written Examination Cancellations:

All written examinations scheduled through April 17 have been cancelled due to COVID-19.

Candidates scheduled for these exams will receive notification of the cancellation by email. The email will provide instruction on how to proceed with the exam rescheduling process. Some candidates will be rescheduled for their next exam by our office. These candidates should monitor their online account for their rescheduled exam date and time. If the rescheduled date and time is not acceptable, candidates may reschedule their exam through their online account up to six days before the new date.

Walk-in written exam candidates planning to take an exam through April 3 are to refer to the Walk-In Examination Schedule posted on Licensing Services’ website for future exam dates and times.
